MEXICANS' TRUCKS * USA - It's in my backyard
TX,USA -Purchasing, by Mary Walker -August 24, 2009: ... Americans oppose Mexican trucking program, two-thirds of American adults polled in early August oppose allowing Mexican trucks to operate in the U.S... In a follow-up poll on Purchasing.com targeting supply chain professionals, only about one-third of respondents were opposed, with a much higher percentage saying they were unsure where they stood... The Department of Transportation has plans for a rigorous inspection program to ensure safe operations of Mexican trucks crossing the border... This is raising the bar on truckers in Mexico and adding expense to meet these regulations. This is one of Mexico’s major complaints... But there are a lot of angles to this issue that the average American being polled may not be aware of. For example is the average American being polled aware of the strict safety regulations that would be required by the Department of Transportation or was it just that we don’t want Mexican trucks on our highways?... There are many unanswered questions to a cross border agreement. Corruption of officials on both sides of the border is also a consideration.
