Lobbying group says infrastructure projects, congestion, can't wait 18 months

As the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee approved a bill to extend the existing highway program for 18 months July 15, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce launched a campaign to convince lawmakers they need to get the job done sooner... Chamber President Thomas J. Donohue, said that Congress should pass the Surface Transportation Authorization Act of 2009 that is being promoted by the leaders of the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee... Donohue said the bill was urgent, because it would provide for construction and repair of transportation infrastructure that’s critical to keeping the U.S. businesses competitive with the rest of the world...
