Analysts say January quarter rode on softening commodity prices and buoyant demand from rural India

Tata Motors Ltd., India’s largest truckmaker’s Jaguar/ Land Rover business has drawn up plans for an extended shutdown of its U.K. factories and for further job losses, the Sunday Times reported yesterday, without saying where it got the information... Tata is also still in talks with the U.K. government about securing loan guarantees to help it through the current slump in car sales, the newspaper said...
New Delhi.India -Livemint (USA), by Samar Srivastava -15 July 2009: -- Truck makers Tata Motors Ltd and Ashok Leyland Ltd are likely to report reduced profits as demand for trucks shows no signs of picking up. Tata Motors also makes cars, but trucks contribute to nearly two-thirds of its profits... Net profit at Tata Motors is expected to halve to Rs124 crore, while Ashok Leyland is likely to post a loss of Rs10 crore for the quarter, according to the five analysts polled... Analysts say the worst is behind the two companies, but are still unsure about when demand for big trucks will improve...
* Japan - Isuzu Leads Gains by Japan Vehicle Makers on U.S.
Tokyo,Japan -Bloomberg, by Makiko Kitamura and Yuki Hagiwara -July 14, 2009: -- Isuzu Motors Ltd., Japan’s largest maker of light-duty trucks, led automakers higher in Tokyo trading after stocks rallied in the U.S.... Isuzu surged 12 yen, or 10 percent, the most in three months, to close at 137 yen. Mazda Motor Corp., Japan’s second- largest car exporter, rose 5.4 percent to 214 yen, and Nissan Motor Co., the country’s third-largest automaker, gained 7.3 percent to 545 yen... Nissan said today it will increase output to 460,000 vehicles a year at its plant in Guangzhou (China) from 360,000 units by adding a third shift from October...
