TRUCKMAKERS' NEWS * USA - Navistar to lay off 275 at Mississippi defense plant
Warrenville,ILL,USA -Bloomberg News/Daily Herald -13 July 2009: -- Navistar International Corp., the largest maker of blast-proof trucks for the U.S. military, said it will lay off 275 workers at a Mississippi factory because of declining production of the vehicles... The reductions leave the West Point plant with 200 workers, Elissa Koc, a Navistar's spokeswoman , said today... The company lost out on a $1.06 billion contract with the U.S. Defense Department last month to build all-terrain trucks that would protect troops in Afghanistan from roadside bombs.
