TRUCKERS' STORIES * Abu Dhabi - Truck Owners Can Only Wait and Watch as Jam Continues

Khaleej,Abu Dhabi -The Khaleej Times, by T Ramavarman -12 June 2009: -- The helpless owners of the trucks that stay stuck at the UAE-Saudi border for Customs clearance, have adopted a ‘wait and watch’ attitude... With the long delays in the clearance of vehicles at the border, some transport companies are avoiding booking cargo bound for Saudi Arabia... Meanwhile, the drivers of some of the trucks caught in the border jam said they had moved forward significantly on Thursday. “Maybe they (the Customs officials) have worked last night. I have been in the queue for the past three days, and now I have reached at the gate of the border parking. It might take another two days to reach the actual clearance spot. At the gate we are able to buy some food and water,” said Mirza Anwar of Bayyat Transport... “I’ve been in the queue for the past two days, and now I’m about 6km away from the gate, and it might be possible for me to get the clearance in another five days,” said Ramkumar of Over Road General Transport...
