Vehicle Efficiency Research * USA - DOE releases money for
Washington,DC,USA -AP, by H. JOSEF HEBERT -11 June 2009: -- The Energy Department says its making $240 million available for research into more fuel-efficient large trucks and passengers vehicles. It also is providing about $11 million for nine projects looking into capturing carbon dioxide from coal plants and $49 million for two dozen solar technology projects... The $240 million is for research aimed at improving the fuel efficiency of large trucks by 50 percent and passengers cars by 25 to 40 percent, depending on the type of fuel they use... Ann Arbor,MICH,USA -AP -12 June 2009: -- Improving the efficiency and safety of truck transportation while reducing its environmental damage is the focus of an international conference next week at the University of Michigan... The school's Transportation Research Institute is hosting the "Building the Policy Options Roadmap" conference Tuesday and Wednesday... The school says "technical experts and public policy officials from around the world will lay out practical and workable options for ensuring economically viable and socially responsive U.S. commercial truck transportation."... Sponsors include the Federal Highway Administration, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Con-way Freight, and American Trucking Association...
