* USA - Analysis: Truck sales projected to be soft into 2010
Columbus,IN,USA -Fleet Owner, by Sean Kilcarr -Jun 16, 2009: -- Sales and production of commercial trucks will remain decidedly soft for the remainder of 2009 and well into 2010, according to new analysis by ACT Research Company (ACT)... In its recently published North American Commercial Vehicle Outlook, ACT forecasts 2009 Class 8 retail sales will be 43% below 2008 levels and only recover about half of that decline in 2010, with medium-duty Class 5-7 retail sales projected to be down 26% for 2009 and grow only 11% next year, said Kenny Vieth, partner and senior analyst with ACT... He also noted that orders failing to arrive in sufficient numbers through May all but removed the possibility of an EPA 2010-driven pre-buy bounce in 2009, and with significant excess capacity in trucking and no expectation of a strong rebound coming out of the recession, the Class 8 fleet will end 2010 with its oldest average age on record...
* Canada - Flat in April- New motor vehicle sales
Ottawa,ONT,CAN -Statistics Canada -15 June 2009: -- The number of new motor vehicles sold remained essentially unchanged in April at 121,290 units, following a strong increase in March. April sales were 8.0% higher than those reported in December 2008, when new motor vehicles sold were at their lowest level in 10 years... Sales of new trucks (which include minivans, sport-utility vehicles, light and heavy trucks, vans and buses) edged down 0.1% to 60,184 units in April. The number of new trucks sold in April was up 11.9% from December 2008...
