* UK - Checks show three out of four HGVs not loaded safely

London,UK -HGV (Ireland)-8 Mayo 2009: -- Three out of four HGVs stopped during recent safety checks in England and Wales were not loaded safely, it has emerged... The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Vehicle Operator Services Agency (VOSA) stopped 40 vehicles during three days of checks in Wrexham, Birmingham and Humberside... Although the majority needed remedial action to make the load safe for onward travel and unloading, in most cases drivers were able to solve the problem safely within minutes. * Germany - Fatal accidents involving HGVs continue to decline in

Berlin,Germany -HGV -15 May 2009: -- The number of fatal incidents involving lorries operating on Germany's roads fell to its lowest level ever number last year, despite an increase in the volume of freight moved... There 1,005 fatalities directly involving lorries in 2008 - compared to 1,095 in 2007 and 1,197 in 2006... The number of incidents involving severe injuries also fell to 7,977 compared to 8,476 in 2007 and 8,808 in 2006... BGL, the German road transport organisation said the figures said the figures reflected the sector's continued focus on innovative safety systems... The association added that one incident was one too many and urged companies to continue investing in safety equipment, despite the economic downturn...
