Researchers are studying ways to use eye-tracking technology to prevent road accidents
IOW,USA -University of Iowa/The Daily Iowan, by Maggie Peters -21 April 2009: -- ... Birsen Donmez, a postdoctoral associate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, recently completed a feedback study that involved the use of eye-tracking cameras to monitor drivers' eyes.. During her experiment, Donmez tested drivers in three sessions and provided instant feedback from the eye-tracking cameras. She gave the feedback in "report card" form, and found that the participants improved their performance significantly by the end of experiment even in the absence of feedback... Donmez forecasts that eye tracking technology could be used as training aids for new motorists and help enhance older drivers' performance as well. These technologies can help drivers improve how they "self-regulate," she says... (Photo: Birsen Donmez)
