TRUCKMAKERS' NEWS * USA - Navistar to offer private-label parts line
Chicago,ILL,USA -Associated Press/The Chicago Tribune -February 9, 2009: -- Engine and truck maker Navistar International Corp. said Monday it's launching a lower-priced private label brand of truck parts designed for budget-minded truck owners... PartSmart products, which include a variety of fast-moving and fast-wearing parts for all makes of trucks, cost up to 20 percent less than genuine, original equipment parts, Navistar said... Some of the parts available include air valves, bearings, belts, clutch, hoses, hydraulic pads and calipers, lighting, rotating electrics, u-joints, seals and wipers... All of the parts come with a one-year, parts-only replacement warranty and can be purchased at Navistar's International brand U.S. dealers. The line will be available overseas later in the year...
* Detroit Diesel previews SCR technology
USA -eTrucker, by Jack Roberts -9 Feb 2009: -- Noting that its test trucks already have logged 12 million miles using its BlueTec selective catalytic reduction (SCR) technology, Detroit Diesel and its parent company Daimler Trucks North America briefed journalists on a host of SCR-related issues at the Technology and Maintenance Council's annual meeting... Overall, Daimler and Detroit Diesel engineers say pre-production testing up to this point has shown increased fuel economy of 5 percent for its SCR-equipped trucks. Even after taking into account the increased costs of purchasing DEF fluid, the company confidently is predicting fleets still will see overall fuel economy increases of 3 percent compared to pre-2010 engines...
