'10 Transit, which debuts in U.S. Wednesday, averages 20 mpg; E-series replacement to include electric version

Detroit,Mich,USA -The Detroit News, by Scott Burgess -February 9, 2009: -- The first European product in Ford Motor Co.'s lineup to reach American shores could change the way some companies do business... The 2010 Ford Transit Connect is versatile, has average fuel economy in the 20-mpg range, and a starting price of $21,475... Derrick Kuzak, Ford's vice president of global product development, said the Transit Connect will achieve 40 percent better fuel economy over the company's full size E-Series van, which is being discontinued... It offers more than 135 cubic feet of storage space, which can also be custom configured with storage devices by outside vendors who have already worked with Ford. Customers can order the two-passenger Transit Connect stripped down or have it delivered completely set up for their needs... Indeed. Since Ford introduced the van in Europe in 2003, more than 600,000 have been sold in 58 countries. The U.S. marks the 59th country...

* USA - Mack orders fall in 2008. Truckmaker says deliveries were down 11 percent

Allentown,PA,USA -The Allentown Morning Call, by Tyrone Richardson-February 7, 2009: -- The slowdown in key industries that fuel the demand for trucks led to a lackluster 2008 for Mack Trucks. The beleaguered Allentown truckmaker reported Friday that deliveries were down 11 percent. The announcement was the latest in a series of bad news for the company, which recently laid off 180 workers at its Lower Macungie production plant and has enacted weeklong production shutdowns as orders taper in the lingering recession... In December, its most recent month reported, Mack delivered 1,462 trucks, down from 1,721 for the same month in 2007. In total, Mack produced 16,613 trucks in 2008, down from 18,621 for 2007... The company does not build trucks on speculation the way automakers do, so deliveries directly represent customer orders... (Picture: Mack's future-wallpaper)
