* USA - Truck firm get systems from Par subsidiaries

England, the nation’s largest refrigerated trucking company, to deploy a monitoring system on the Utah-based company’s more than 5,000 refrigerated trailers... Par’s system will allow C.R. England constant real-time visibility and control of its refrigerated trailers across North America. It will help improve asset utilization and fuel savings, and provides protection of perishable products...


* USA - Trucker Automates Hiring

Gallagher -20 Jan 2009: -- Maverick Transportation, a division of Maverick USA, is using a new software package to streamline the hiring process for its truck drivers. The Little Rock, Ark.-based carrier licensed SHIPS Driver Recruiting from EBE Technologies... SHIPS processes Web, faxed, mailed or phoned- in applications and matches qualification rules to them. The software automates and audits the verification process including electronic interfaces to third parties...



* USA - Workers Pitching In

Overland Park,Kan,USA -Traffic World, by John Gallagher -19 Jan 2009: -- YRC Worldwide got the answer it was looking for from the Teamsters when they agreed to wage givebacks to help the company stay afloat, but it's likely the economy will have the final say as to whether the nation's biggest trucking company will be able to survive... In exchange, Teamsters employees will receive a 15 percent ownership stake in the company. Contributions to the health, welfare and pension plans will continue as previously negotiated...

* USA - Bank Waives YRCW Debt Limit till Feb.

USA -Traffic World, by Thomas L. Gallagher -16 Jan 2009: -- YRC Worldwide on Jan. 16 obtained waivers under its credit facilities, an advance in the company's effort to ease its own credit crunch. YRC's banking group provided the waivers until mid-February to allow sufficient time to amend the facilities and renew asset backed securitization without a delay in reporting the company's 2008 results... YRC had taken $250 million in cash from its revolving account in October to finance a tender offer for senior notes. The trucking company canceled the tender offer in December, leaving it over the allowable total debt limit for the year under the current credit facilities...



* USA - Missoula trucking company given more time in bankruptcy

Missoula,MT,USA -8KPAX -Jan 20, 2009: -- A federal judge is giving a Missoula-based trucking company more time to answer complaints from debtors who are questioning figures being used in a bankruptcy case... Jim Palmer Trucking filed the Chapter 11 bankruptcy in Butte last summer as the company struggled to meet its operational costs, and especially the soaring price of diesel fuel...The company has stayed in operation since then, but details of the bankruptcy settlements are still being ironed out. In a statement on the company's web site, Palmer Trucking President Lonnie Wallace has said the "doors are definitely open and our wheels are turning" with the company looking for a "profitable 2009" with the upcoming addition of 35-new fuel efficient trucks...


* Canada - Manitoba launches enhanced ID card program for travel to US

Winnipeg,MAN,CAN -Truck News -20 Jan 2009: -- Manitoba is introducing an enhanced identification card (EIC) as a less-expensive alternative to a passport that will permit entry to the US by land or water, Attorney General Dave Chomiak announced... The Manitoba government proclaimed legislation this week that gives the green light to the voluntary program which will help Manitobans meet new US border crossing rules that take effect this June. The government indicates that the EIC will be a more affordable and convenient option for Manitobans who choose this card instead of a passport, in order to enter the US via land crossings...


* USA - Anything Trucker Creates Online LTL Load Board

Tucson,AZ,USA -Transport Topics -18 Jan 2009: -- Anything Trucker, an Internet retailer of truck and trailer accessories, said Jan. 5 it had launched the Freight Auction Network for less-than-truckload carriers... The Freight Auction Network is a Web-based load board that allows carriers to bid on freight posted online by shippers... It is a way for the company to provide “back-office technical services . . . on a third-party basis to transportation companies struggling to stay afloat,” said Tim Norton, president of Anything Trucker... While the new auction network is intended for LTL shippers and carriers, Norton said Anything Trucker plans to offer similar services for truckload hauls. The company did not provide a target release date for the truckload offering...
