"FALSE" TESTIMONY * USA - Sen. Boxer hints it from EPA chief

California approved a law in 2006 to enact new limits on emissions for cars and light trucks, but the Environmental Protection Agency decided not to grant the state a waiver that would have allowed them to enforce the new standard... Sen. Barbara Boxer, D-CA, criticized EPA Administrator Stephen Johnson’s denial in December 2007 and pointed out it was the first such denial in more than 50 waiver requests the EPA had granted to California... This week, Boxer – head of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works – released transcripts to the Justice Department for consideration in its preliminary investigation into whether Johnson provided “false, misleading or intentionally incomplete statements in his sworn testimony before the committee”... The letter asks Attorney General Michael Mukasey to look specifically at testimony provided to the EPW Committee on Sept. 23. On that day, EPA Principal Deputy Assistant Administrator Robert Meyers testified and provided responses that “appear to further support the conclusion that EPA Administrator Johnson provided false or misleading testimony to the EPW Committee,” Boxer wrote...
