BORDER TROUBLES * Bulgaria - Trucks Manufactured Before 1992 Prohibited from Entering Turkey
Reciprocal measures in response to the new fees and restrictions imposed by Turkey exclusively on Bulgarian transportation carriers would be finalized in September, according to Volodya Kirov, Executive Director of the Confederation of Automobile Carriers in Bulgaria
Sofia,Bulgaria -The Sofia News Agency -2 September 2008: -- The Turkish Cabinet decided that all Bulgarian drivers, who are transporting commercial freight, would pay a one-time fee of EUR 83. The decision came on the heels of a similar decision made by the Bulgarian Cabinet several months ago... According to Kirov, the Turkish measures contradict the agreement signed by both countries in 1997 and must be annulled... Turkey had further imposed a prohibition on all heavy trucks coming from Bulgaria if they were manufactured before 1992. The leadership of the of the Confederation of Automobile Carriers in Bulgaria has not confirmed other reports that the Turkish authorities were gong to request EUR 0,22 per kilometer from Bulgarian carriers and Turkish warnings that their trucks would go around Bulgaria...
