Almost Clean Trucks OK * USA - But What Happens They’re Sold?

Long Beach,CA,USA -The Cunningham Report -17 Aug 2008: -- When a Port of Long Beach Harbor Commission committee voted a couple of weeks ago to grant exemptions to 117 liquefied natural gas-powered drayage trucks that don't meet the requirements of the port's Clean Trucks Program, they also opened the door to the issue of whether the exemptions will still apply under certain conditions... The trucks, funded by the Port of Long Beach and the Port of Los Angeles in 2007 for $21.5 million, are part of an LNG truck pilot program, but due to the lengthy time it has taken to implement the program, the trucks have become non-compliant with the emissions standards that were later adopted under the Clean Trucks Programs... At present, most of the trucks remain on a lot run by Seal Beach-based alternative fuel company Clean Energy because the orders have not yet been brought to closure by the pilot program's administrator, the Port of Los Angeles... But Clean Energy's business development director Greg Roche asked the Long Beach port board last week about the possibility of having the latitude to sell the trucks to other companies if any of the current deals fall through. What he needs to know is if the pilot program trucks are sold to new owners would the trucks retain the exemption from the $35 per TEU Clean Truck Fee charged for containers hauled by non-compliant trucks...
