TRUCKING INDUSTRY CRISIS * USA & Canada - Fuel costs, auto industry woes kill local trucking company
'Horrible' end to family-owned Kitchener firm that has been in business for over 80 years
Kitchener,ONT,CAN -The Waterloo Record (Waterloo,Ontario), by Greg Mercer -July 17, 2008: -- A family-owned trucking company with more than 80 years of history says skyrocketing fuel prices and a slowing economy have forced it off the roads and out of business... Randy Frohlich, vice-president of operations for Al's Cartage, confirmed last night that the Goodrich Drive business locked its doors yesterday... The company's fuel supplier had cut them off, he said, because Al's Cartage couldn't pay its bills... His father, company president Norm Frohlich, said the downturn in the auto industry, for which his company moved parts, and slowing cross-border trade also spelled the end... "We're flat broke," he said. "This is a sad day."... (Photo: Gasoline Tanker Station)
