North Mankato,MIN,USA -Truck News -16 July 2008: -- The first International MaxxForce big bore engine is now in the hands of a customer in the US... The company delivered its first MaxxForce 13 production unit, fitted in a TranStar truck, to Wayne Viessman of Minnesota-based Cliff Viessman Inc... The International MaxxForce was designed in partnership with European engine manufacturer MAN and exclusively for use in International ProStar, TranStar and WorkStar trucks. The engine is available in six ratings from 330-475 hp and 1,250-1,700 lb.-ft. of torque. It has been noted for its low noise levels, light weight, strong torque response and fuel efficiency... * Canada - More layoffs in store for St. Thomas truck plant
St. Thomas,ONT,CAN -The Canadian Press/ Truck News -July 17, 2008: -- Daimler Trucks North America will lay off 720 additional workers at its Sterling truck plant here, reports... That will bring the total number of layoffs at the plant to more than 1,300. The latest round of layoffs is expected to be effective in November... Production at the plant is expected to decrease from today's rate of 75 trucks per day to as few as 38 in the fall...
* IdleAire Reaches $26 Million Sale Agreement
Knoxville,Tenn,USA -The News Sentinel/Transport Topics -16 July 2008: -- IdleAire Technologies Corp., which provides stationary power for trucks to use at truck stops in lieu of idling, has reached agreement to be sold for $26 million, reported... IdleAire spokesman John Doty said in an e-mail message that there have been no changes in operations since the company’s May 12 bankruptcy filing...
