NEIGHBORHOOD TROUBLES * Turkey - Takes action against Bulgaria on truck fee issue
Istanbul,Turkey -Today's Zaman -17 July 2008: -- The International Transporters' Association (UND) Executive Board has announced that a common action plan concerning Bulgaria's requirement of $271 in extra transit fees from Turkish cargo trucks was put into effect yesterday, imposing sanctions on Bulgaria in its trade with Turkey... According to the report released by the UND Executive Board, conventional Bulgarian vehicles that do not meet certain environmental standards will not be allowed to enter Turkey; strict measures will be taken in examining the usage of Ministry of Transport (UBAK) documents by Bulgarian vehicles; trucks with trailers attached will not be allowed... In addition the Greece-Macedonia highway will be kept open for awhile as an alternative to the Bulgaria highway used in European transportation; all Bulgarian transport will be required to pay a fee, and ro-ro lines (roll on, roll off ferries) in the Black Sea will go into operation to bypass Bulgaria...
