The Ontario government is putting the brakes to speeding trucks
Toronto,ONT,CAN -The London Free Press, by ANTONELLA ARTUSO -March 20, 2008: -- ... Under legislation introduced yesterday by Transportation Minister Jim Bradley, large trucks will be required to use speed limiters that allow a maximum of 105 km/h... Ontario and Quebec are the only two jurisdictions in North America to have taken steps to legislate speed limiters in trucks, although they are the law in Europe and Australia... Excessive speed is a factor in almost 23 per cent of collisions involving large vehicles, Bradley said... On some 400-series highways, cars routinely travel at 120 to 130 km/h, he said... There may be a need for a stronger police presence on the highways or other rules to ensure public safety, he said...
