Truck Charges * Australia - To hit hard

But Labor says increased charges for the trucking industry will not translate into significantly higher grocery bills... The hike is part of a raft of measures including an increase in the road user charge... Essentially a fuel tax for trucks and buses, it rises from 19.63 cents-a-litre to 21 cents per litre, which would be indexed at a rate higher than the consumer price index annually, and come into effect from January 1 next year... The government argues the higher charges are justified because the trucking industry is not shouldering enough of the cost of providing road infrastructure...
