INFRASTRUCTURE * Canada - Near 'Collapse': study say

Canada’s aging infrastructure is near collapse according to a report by the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM)

Ottawa,Ont,CAN -The Toronto Star/Truck News, by Adam Ledlow -20 Nov 2007: -- ... A new report from federation president Gord Steeves says the country has used up 79% of the service life of its roads, bridges, water-and-sewage systems and other vital infrastructure and it will cost $123 billion to stave off disaster... The report said that “signs of collapse” are all around, including boil-water advisories and cracks in the pavement which become potholes... Steeves said municipalities can't afford to fix the problem on their own, but that action must be taken quickly to prevent “catastrophic failures”...




* Feds seek private partner to help construct new Windsor crossing
Windsor,Ont,CAN -Truck News, by James Menzies -27 Nov 2007: -- The federal government has confirmed that it is seeking a private partner to help it construct a new border crossing in Windsor... Federal Transport Minister Lawrence Cannon addressed the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships, where he said the government wants to work with a private company to increase border crossing capacity in Windsor...
