* China - Overloaded trucks banned
Beijing,China -The China Daily -November 10, 2007: -- Trucks carrying more than 55 tons of cargo have been banned from plying on roads and bridges in North China's Beijing and Tianjin municipalities, Shanxi and Hebei provinces and the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region... The ban came into effect from Friday, and is aimed at ensuring road safety, Shanxi provincial government official Li Shuntong said. "The scheme will target vans carrying cargo in excess of their designed limit, too," Li said. A truck can carry a maximum of 55 tons, according to regulations... Some vehicles carry up to 200 tons of cargo after getting auto companies and repair shops to illegally increase their capacity, he said... A coordination system involving industrial and commercial departments, as well as transportation and public security authorities of the regions will be set up soon...
