TRUCKING INDUSTRY * USA - Young Leaders Emerge At USA Truck
Crawford County,ARK,USA -The Morning News, by Ben Boulden -November 10, 2007: -- ... In late August, Cliff Beckham, 35, became chief executive officer of USA Truck, and Darron Ming, 33, took Beckham's position as chief financial officer... Beckham replaced CEO Jerry Orler, who retired on his 65th birthday on Aug. 29... A few days before that, Craig Shelly, 31, was named to a new position, vice president of corporate strategy... Shelly had been company treasurer, and Ming added that to his duties as CFO... "Coming up behind (executives in their fifties and sixties) are guys I call the Young Turks, who have degrees in transportation and logistics, which were not possible to get in the Eighties," said Lane Kidd, president of the Arkansas Trucking Association. "They're mechanical engineers and more technologically advanced"... The three thirtysomethings and the rest of the USA Truck management team, most in their thirties and forties, will put their skill sets to the test in the next year or two leading the company... Soft freight demand and a competitive environment among other truckload carriers for that freight helped reduce the company's third quarter net income to $16,000 from $3.41 million a year earlier...
