Poor Brakes * Canada - Cost lives and money

Better compliance needed in trucking industry - inspector

Halifax,Nova Scotia,Canada -The Chronicle Herald, by TOM PETERS -6 Sept 2007: -- Poor brakes on commercial trucks present both safety and financial issues, and trucking industry and government are working together to seek compliance with established safety standards... Paul Cormier, vehicle compliance training and outreach officer for the provincial Transportation Department, said Wednesday that if a truck does not meet the appropriate safety standards, it takes time and money to get that vehicle operational again... "There are a lot of indirect costs," he said... The provincial government and the trucking industry last week offered free brake inspections to truck drivers who volunteered to have their equipment checked...
