All vehicles must have tire pressure monitoring systems, also beginning Sept 1... All automakers must add side air bags in 50% of vehicle up to 8.5K pounds by 2009... Critics says NHTSA ratings aren't tough enough, most vehicles given 4 or 5 stars... Gas-electric hybrids to take biggest hit, as much as 20%, as "real" EPAs posted... Go to www.fueleconomy.gov to see comparison of 2007 mileage ratings vs 2008... New EPA stickers drop most model city driving estimates by 12%, highway to 8%... 2008 is 1st of 3 transition years; by 2011, all automakers must use new system...
