New York,NY,USA -Associated Press/The Houston Chronicle (Houston,TX) -12 Jan 2007: -- Shares of heavy truck makers closed modestly higher Thursday, a day after Paccar Inc. said it plans to build a $400 million engine manufacturing and assembly plant in the southeastern U.S... Shares of Paccar rose $1.03 to end at $67.84 on the Nasdaq, at one point in the session reaching $68.47. Also on the Nasdaq, shares of Volvo AB added 82 cents to finish at $66.73... Navistar International Corp., the smallest of the three truck makers, proved the afternoon's biggest gainer, as its stock advanced to a new 52-week high of $38.12. Shares of Navistar traded up $1.62, or 4.5 percent, to close at $37.92. On Wednesday, Paccar said the new facility would meet strong demand in North America for its three brands, Peterbilt, Kenworth and DAF... But Igor Maryasis, an analyst at Prudential Equity Group, said the decision also reflects a trend by U.S. truck makers to adopt a vertically integrated manufacturing model with in-house engine production. After the plant is finished in 2009, all of the major truck makers will offer engines made in-house...
