* Japan - Toyota Sales Employees Arrested for Filing False Reports
TOKYO,Japan -Forbes/AP, by Yuri Kageyama -11 Oct 2006: -- Four Toyota sales subsidiary employees were arrested Tuesday on charges that they filed false reports to the government on the sales of four used cars, police said... Toyota Motor Corp. declined to comment on the arrests but apologized for the troubles its subsidiary had caused... Earlier in the day, police had searched the subsidiary, Osaka Toyota, company officials and police said. The subsidiary, which operates about 60 outlets, has been under police investigation for allegedly overstating sales figures for used vehicles...
* China - Toyota outpaces Ford, VW with sales doubling
Beijing,China -Reuters/China Daily -12 Oct 2006: -- Japan's Toyota Motor Corp more than doubled its vehicle sales in China in this year's first nine months, outpacing rivals and the market thanks to accelerated expansion in the world's second largest auto arena... Toyota, the world's second-largest auto maker, also vastly outshone a 34 percent gain in China's overall passenger car market, where 455,539 units were sold from January to September, according to figures provided by a Shanghai auto association... * USA - Ford Recalling 145,000 Vehicles
USA -The Car Connection -11 Oct 2006: -- The recall of about 140,000 2005 Five Hundred/Montego sedans and 2005-2006 Freestar minivans is being performed because the latches in the vehicles may let in water, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said... Ford will also recall 6164 Escape Hybrids for a potential problem with drivetrain shafts, which could break and allow the vehicle to move even when shifted into Park...
