At the same time, high gas prices continue to push many buyers toward more fuel-efficient models, an area where Asian manufacturers still dominate... New vehicle sales are expected to come in at about 1.54 million units, a 15 percent decrease from July 2005, according to estimates by the vehicle research site Edmunds.com... Automakers release their July sales results Tuesday... Michael Maroone, president and chief operating officer of AutoNation Inc., the nation's largest auto retailer, said July should be stronger than June, when 1.5 million vehicles were sold in the United States...

China now buys more cars than any other country in the world except for the U.S. According to a new report from Automotive News, sales of light vehicles in China are projected to reach more than 5.9 million by the end of 2006, nudging Japan from the No. 2 spot. The U.S., which should see more than 16.7 million sales by year's end, will remain far and away the largest market...
* Japan - Honda recalls 35,000 Fits
Tokyo,Japan -AutoBlog (USA), by Joel Arellano -Aug 1st 2006: -- Honda Motor Co. has issued a recall in Japan covering over 35,000 of its subcompact Fit automobiles... According to the automaker, the brake lamp in the Fit may not work due to the misapplication of a lubricant during manufacturing. Only vehicles made between December 2004 and May 2005 are affected, with no problems found with cars bound for the U.S. or other overseas markets. There have been nearly 2,000 reports of the problem from dealerships, but no crashes have resulted...
