EcoNews - USA - Retrofiting Trucks May Help Clean North Portland's Air

Portland,OR,USA -OPB News, by Ley Garnett -22 June 2006: -- Governor Ted Kulongoski continues to focus on cleaner diesel technologies as one of his major environmental projects and campaign issues, as he runs for reelection... Thursday he introduced a program to retrofit diesel-powered tractor-trailers, offering interest free loans to help truckers pay for the new gadgets. On the same day state and local agencies touted a plan to cut dirty diesel exhaust in north Portland... And as if to cap the day of cleaner exhaust initiatives -- the Oregon Environmental Quality Commission voted for a permanent rule for Oregon vehicles to match California's clean car standards beginning in 2009...
