Infraestructure - India - Logistics sector could choke in a decade

Kolkata,India -The Business Standard -Apr 05, 2006: -- Cargo shipments costs would rise 15-20 per cent in less than a decade unless urgent measures like the integration of information technology (IT) tools with transport systems, double stacking of railway container trains and further widening of the road network were taken up immediately, a logistics expert said here today... Speaking ahead of the seminar on 'Role of IT and infrastructure in logistics- Towards a high-growth economy', S K Acharya, managing director and chief executive officer of Vie Trans Ltd., said 10 per cent economic growth meant nearly 20 per cent growth in passenger and cargo logistics volumes, which would choke all existing infrastructure despite new highway construction...
