When it comes to accidents, who's really to blame?

Stockton,CA,USA -Stockton Record, by ERIN SHERBERT -Apr 3, 2006: -- When it comes the motorist at fault in the accident that just halted traffic during your evening commute, researchers say it's more likely to be a car's driver than a truck's... But only slightly... A new study on driving behavior found that automobile drivers were to blame 56 percent of the time, truckers 44 percent, according to the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, a branch of the U.S. Department of Transportation... The study, released in late March, looked at 967 collisions between trucks and cars. The purpose of the study was to analyze driving behavior among all drivers and investigate cause and contributing factors to injury and fatal crashes involving commercial vehicles... The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration investigated a national sample of crashes involving at least one truck weighing more than 10,000 pounds. The study was conducted from 2001 to 2003 across 17 states...
