Germany's automakers are doing a better job than Detroit in fighting off the Asians and high labor costs

NEW YORK,NY,USA -Forbes, by Jerry Flint -13 Jan 2006: -- All four of Germany's home-based auto companies are on the Forbes German 40 list, the largest local companies measured by a composite ranking of sales, assets, profits and market value. Ranked second on this list, is DaimlerChrysler, with $193 billion in global revenues over the latest 12 months. Even though Volkswagen Group it ranks at No. 11... BMW, ranked No. 10 on the Forbes German 40, is one of the most successful automobile companies in the world. Its luxury performance cars are fast, have terrific handling and are expensive... Porsche, ranked No. 37 on the Forbes German 40 with almost $8 billion in revenue and $948 million in net profits, is the best auto company in the world. Its cars are among the most desired... DaimlerChrysler's will return to the basic Mercedes philosophy: gorgeous and powerful luxury cars... VW has strengths: It is a power in China, and it has SEAT of Spain and Skoda of the Czech Republic, giving it access to lower-cost European production... Despite many challenges and a fair amount of turmoil, the overall German auto industry is in good shape. It's worth noting that the leaders of these great German companies know how to engineer and how to build cars. In today's market, that makes a difference...
