Australia -Supply Chain Review -13 Jan 2006: Industry is reporting difficulties in the testing and certification for aftermarket and retrospective installation of front underrun protection systems (FUPS) for 26-metre B-Doubles... A new industry code of practice is being prepared, incorporating guidelines for the application of the FUPS standards...The Australian Trucking Association's (ATA) Industry Technical Council will meet next week to consider the code...

* "Onerous" fatigue regs close in NSW
Australia -Supply Chain Review -11 Jan 2006: Operators are being warned to educate themselves about new fatigue regulations, which the industry calls an onerous new burden... All freight operators, consignors, consignees and head carriers in New South Wales — and interstate operators travelling more than 500 kilometres in the state — must comply with the new Long Distance Driver Fatigue Regulation from March 1... The industry opposed the laws, which place further fatigue monitoring responsibilities on operators over and above chain of responsibility laws...

* Trucking Industry Short 20,000 Drivers
USA -Layover -13 Jan 2006: The long-haul, heavy-duty truck transportation industry in the United States currently is experiencing a national shortage of 20,000 truck drivers, ATA reported in its US Truck Driver Shortage: Analysis and Forecasts issued in 2005... In addition, Careerbuilder.com, a national job bank, ranked heavy-duty truck driving Number 18 on its list of the top 25 jobs for 2006, according to ATA...

* CTL Atlanta Driver Receives Company's Bulldog Performance Award
MULBERRY,FL.,USA -Layover -12 Jan 2006: Kenny Dawson, a driver based in CTL Distribution's Atlanta terminal, has been named the January recipient of the company's Bulldog Performance Award. Mulberry, FL-based CTL's Bulldog Award began in September to nominate and recognize employees for job performance, and is awarded monthly among the 674 employees and owner operators who are part of its headquarters and 13 terminal locations in eight states... Kenny is the most senior driver in the Atlanta terminal...
