There is an "enormous" driver shortage in Saskatchewan
Regina,Sask,Canada -Regina Leader-Post, by Veronica Rhodes -Jan 28, 2006: -- A Winnipeg immigration lawyer is training truck drivers abroad in the hopes of getting them hired by Saskatchewan transport companies... This week, Teruel Carrasco placed an advertisement in the Leader-Post's classified section stating, "I have a pool of qualified truck drivers willing to immigrate to Canada and to settle in the province of Saskatchewan"... In a telephone interview, Carrasco explained he decided to begin training drivers in other countries after researching the driver shortage in the industry. He has about 200 long haul truck drivers willing to come to Canada... Since 2003, the Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) has been in partnership with the provincial and federal governments to run the Immigrant Worker Nominee Program. Approximately 250 families have come to Saskatchewan to work in the industry but all have been from the United Kingdom...
