Story - USA - Drivers passionate about life of freedom

ST. GEORGE,Utah,USA -The Spectrum, by KATIE ASHTON -Sept 20, 2005 :-) Mile after mile, town after town, the life of a trucker on the open road can be simultaneously weary and liberating... Danny Alfred has been driving trucks for the last 45 years and can't remember why he started the profession, but is certain he "could never get away from it"... Alfred's decision, made after his time in the U.S. Army, has blossomed into a true passion... Alfred said he understands how people would take a different path in life. Driving isn't easy, although for some it may seem that way, he said. This profession is "not good for a family man," because the demands of the industry leave truckers away from home for days, even weeks, at a time... What has kept Alfred in the trucking industry can be summed up in one word - respect. "I've respected it, I've never burned a bridge behind me," he said...
