Fight - USA - Dump Truck Drivers Plan Strike in Lee County

Lee County,FL,USA -winktv, by Claudia Ramos -Sept 18, 2005 :-/ Starting around 7am about 800 dump truck drivers may line Lee County roads. "We're gonna fight for this in a peaceful way. That's something people have to understand. We don't go to the streets to fight or use bats or destroy trucks or people. No," said one dump truck driver who wants to remain anonymous... The driver claims increased gas prices, maintenance costs, and dump truck brokers are eating up their profits. "They get around $80, $90 or $100 per load. They offer us just $60 or $50, but on top of that they take 10%. So we don't think that's quite fair"... County Sheriff's Office says, "Demonstrators they're allowed to demonstrate. As long as they're not impeding with the flow of traffic and they're not violating any state law"... That includes using hazard lights. Something the strikers planned on doing. Now, the anonymous driver says he will not turn on his lights, because breaking the law is not the message they want to send out. They just want to be heard...
