TRUCK SALES * Australia: Hino reports strong sales growth

* NSW - "Fantastic 2015 sales results ... "
-- Consistent strong sales of its 300, 500 and 700 Series light, medium and heavy-duty models have helped Hino achieve 15.6 per cent year on year growth to the end of September – 14 per cent above the industry average... Hino light duty sales have grown by 17.5 per cent, beating market average growth of 11.7 per cent, while sales of medium duty Hino trucks have grown by 15.0 per cent – ahead of average market growth of two per cent... According to Hino, the company has boosted sales of its heavy-duty models by 6.7 per cent – against a market trend in which growth is down by seven per cent... Hino Australia chairman and CEO, Steve Lotter, said the results are proof of Hino Australia's synergy with its dealer network, aided by the right vehicles, point of sale and aftersales products for the market...

TRUCKS' MARKET * China: Report, 2015-2018

* New York - China Heavy Truck Industry 
-- In 2014, China's heavy truck sales volume totaled 748,000 units, falling 3.32% year on year; the accumulative sales volume for Jan.-Apr. 2015 reached 193,300 units, a sharp reduction of 33.52% from the same period in 2014. That was mainly because growing economic downward pressure led to a slowdown in fixed assets investment so that the real estate market experienced volatile adjustment, thus resulting in a fall in demand for heavy trucks... Meanwhile, China began to implement national IV emission standards in January 2015, which brought cost pressure to carmakers and increased the users' procurement costs... On the other hand, the national IV standard-related facilities were still not well-equipped, such as insufficient denitration, a lack of urea supply centers, and less technical reserves of enterprises, which made some users take a wait-and-see attitude for new products, thereby, to some extent, restraining the demand for heavy trucks... As of June 2015, there were three major positive factors in China's heavy truck market that would boost demand: New projects – In 2015, China will expand the effective investment and set up the promotion mechanism of major infrastructure projects, including more than 420 projects from 7 major project packages with a proposed investment of over RMB10 trillion (1 U$S = 6,35 RMB). And shantytown renovation, railway, road, and infrastructure projects will drive the demand for civil engineering heavy trucks... In Sep. 2014, China introduced energy conservation and emissions reduction program, according to which around 600 yellow-label cars and old vehicles would be phased out, which would expand to a certain degree the new demand for heavy trucks... In 2014-2015, as China witnessed a rapid development in e-commerce, the express delivery demand grew at an astonishing pace, which brought huge demand for road transportation and logistics heavy trucks... In the new normal, China is adjusting its economic growth pattern, and heavy trucks are undertaking the changes in profit model and product demand. TRUCKS MARKET * India: Smart Recovery

* Delhi - Truck market growth pegged at 20% in second half of this fiscal

-- Indian medium and heavy commercial vehicle market considered as a barometer of economic activity has made a smart recovery on the back of pent-up replacement demand in FY15... With some signs of increasing consumption, extended replacement buying which was to end this year and advancement of purchase due to ensuing new regulations is leading the truck makers to revise the growth expectation higher to 20 per cent growth for medium and heavy trucks... With the high base effect of second half coming in, it was estimated the growth rates for medium and trucks in the second half of this fiscal will come down, but it is likely to sustain... Already, from April to July, the medium and heavy truck segment (16 tonne to 49 tonne) has seen a growth of 24.5 per cent to 69,000 units... Experts says, the haulage segment (trucks in which consumer related items are carried) has already reached close to 90 per cent of its earlier peak. And the tipper segment which is a directly related to the mining has reached 65 per cent from its earlier peak seen in 2012...

TRUCKS MARKET * India: Commercial vehicle makers push second-hand sales through retail outlets

* New Delhi - Inspired by zooming sales of pre-owned cars, CV makers also want slice of meaty second-hand pie

-- The successful run of company-owned channels to retail pre-owned cars has now led commercial vehicle manufacturers to also give a push to such sales. The country’s largest commercial vehicle manufacturers, Tata Motors and VE Commercial Vehicles (a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors), have reinforced their thrust into retailing pre-owned commercial vehicles through their respective outfits... The basic idea behind scaling this stream is to cut into the market of the unorganised sector, which dominates such sales, and connect with the customer base, which helps in sales of new vehicles. Also, during slowdowns, when sales take a hit, second-hand sales come in handy... Tata Motors has separate showrooms for selling used vehicles, while at some places the dealers showcase pre-owned vehicles at the same location... Though no detailed data for the used trucks market is currently available, analysts expect the market to grow with the entry of major players... In the April-July period, the segment has seen a robust growth of 24.86% in domestic sales. In July itself, the growth has been 29.49%...

-- As per ICRA report, the Medium & Heavy Commercial Vehicle (M&HCV) Truck segment posted a positive growth of 19.0% in 10m FY 2015. 

  ° The HCV (16T+) segment accounted for almost half of total M&HCV (Truck) sales and witnessed strong demand (up 42.6% in 10m FY 2015). 

  ° The LCV Truck segment experienced sluggish trends (down 13.8% YoY) due to constrained financing environment. 

  ° Fleet utilization levels are gradually improving on back of higher load availability from some of the key freight generating sectors such as Automobiles, Cement and other general industries. 

  ° In ICRA’s view, the M&HCV (Truck) segment is likely to register a growth of 12-14% in FY 2016 while demand for LCV’s will grow at CAGR (%) 11-13% over the longer-term. 

  ... The key factors driving this growth are continuing trend towards replacement of ageing fleet and expectations of pick-up in demand from infrastructure and industrial sectors in view of reforms being initiated by the Government... As Ishu said, “The share of road transport is bound to grow in the upcoming years with 8.4% for 2012". The total good vehicles amount to 76.6 lakh making close to 700 Mn trips in India...

TRUCKS MARKETS * Australia - * Ireland

* Victoria - Truck sales steady
-- 2015 has been a year of mixed results for the truck manufacturers in Australia, according to the latest truck sales figures published by the Truck Industry Council (TIC)... The total of 2,775 new truck registrations was 570 more than in May and took the total for the year so far to 12,283 - 124 more than for the same period in 2014... The strong sales in light-duty vehicles influenced some changes in overall market shares as OEMs such as the big three Japanese brands with their broad model ranges took percentage points away from manufacturers who operate in the heavy-duty space only... Van sales continued to run close to 30 per cent up on last year, with 672 new delivery and trades vans hitting the road... The 332 registrations for Mercedes-Benz vans during June gave it a dominating 49.4 per cent of the van market, but the other manufacturers also continued to enjoy solid year-to-date growth - except Fiat, whose sales are flat on last year... With 68 vans sold in June, the Italian brand at least made up for the seven per cent lag in May... The combined truck and van sales in June added up to 3,447 new vehicles, which took the first half total to 15,140 for an overall commercial vehicle market growth of 5.4 per cent...

* Eire - LCV up 56% and HGV sales up 4% in first six months

-- SIMI have revealed that LCV sales are up hugely compared to the first half of last year while a good June saw HGV sales outstrip the first half of 2014 as well... Light Commercials Vehicles (LCV), were up by 52% (801) on June 2014 (528) and are up 56% (14,600) for the first half of the year compared to 2014. HGV (Heavy Goods Vehicle) registrations, which had been lagging behind last year to the end of May, are up 89% for the month of June (157) compared with June 2014 (83), and are now up 4% year to date...

TRUCKS MARKET * India: A false dawn for truck sales?

* Mumbai - The lull in core sectors has forced transport companies to put expansion on hold until a broad-based recovery takes root

-- Mumbai-based transport company Caravan Roadways owns 200-odd trucks and its fleet size has remained the same for the last three years, though it has been replacing old ones. It has no plans to expand its fleet unless demand for transport services picks up substantially, said its chairman N.L. Gupta, adding that his trucks are not idling but the waiting periods for return trips have increased... Gupta is luckier than Inderbeer Singh, managing director of Delhi-based ABC Transport Co. Ltd, who bought 16 heavy duty trucks in the last one year, expecting greater freight movement and better rates. While it has not happened so far, his firm’s costs, such as tolls, drivers’ salaries and insurance premiums, have gone up, and it is now “incurring losses”. Weak demand has driven owners of medium and heavy duty trucks to this situation, forcing truck makers to offer steep discounts of Rs.1.5-5.5 lakh... The bigger issue facing transporters, said Tata Motors’ Pisharody, is finance availability. Owing to the last two years’ slowdown, the net worth of transporters has eroded, making financiers wary of lending, even though there are few defaults...

* Tamil Nadu - Truck-makers eye revival in 2014

Chennai,Tamil Nadu,India -The Times of India, by Nandini Sengupta -Aug 27, 2014: -- The commercial vehicle industry, battered by its worst slowdown in a decade in the last two years, is beginning to turn around and should end the current financial year either flat or on a positive note... That's a huge improvement from the 20%-plus negative growth clocked last financial year. According to top industry sources, the top-end tractor trailer segment has already hit pre-slowdown, 2011-level growth once again totting up 52% growth in the first seven months of this calendar... The demand upturn means CV makers are ramping up production rapidly to catch the festive spurt. VECV is cranking out 3,500 units a month but is ready to ramp up to 5,000 units a month if the demand picks up speed... The trouble is the ramp up plans by OEMs has caught a number of smaller vendors unawares. A section of component suppliers, particularly smaller players that had cut back on investments and capacity significantly in the downturn, are now unable to keep pace with demand revival...

* UK - Van volumes up, trucks down

London,EN,UK -Automotive Fleet -August 12, 2014: -- Print Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) has reported that the total commercial vehicle registrations in the UK have increased by 25.8 percent in July, up 13.1 percent for the year-to-date, and 18.4 percent over the rolling year. The van market has maintained a period of strong growth, up 34.5 percent in July and 18.9 percent over the year-to-date to more than 180,000 units. However, truck registrations fell by 16.3 percent in July, down 21.9 percent over the year-to-date following a surge towards the end of 2013 due to the introduction of Euro-6. The rolling year total remains up 16.4 percent, following increased activity last year...

China's truck market - the largest in the world - is a pyramid structure with medium and lower-end products ranging in price from 300,000 yuan ($49,180) to 800,000 yuan taking about 80 percent of the share... Statistics from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers show that 1.77 million trucks were sold in the first half, a drop of 4.27 percent on an annual basis... Only the heavy-duty truck segment showed an increase as it rose 6.53 percent while lower-capacity commercial trucks all reported sales declines...

Sales of trucks and buses declined over the first two quarters of 2014, in a development that analysts blame on commercial vehicle makers’ greater exposure to slower economic growth and stricter emission standards... Sales of commercial vehicles, however, are declining. They fell 3 per cent over the first six months to 2m units, according to CAAM, the leading lobby group for domestic vehicle manufacturers... China is the world’s largest market for trucks, accounting for almost half of global sales of those weighing 14 tonnes or more. About 600,000 heavy-duty trucks were sold in China last year, compared with about 200,000 in the EU... But that is down from an annual sales peak of almost 900,000 in 2011, and some industry observers forecast further decline as Chinese truck operators become more efficient...

(Photo: At this truck stop, shipping containers had been turned into offices for freight brokerages. The brokers working the offices have lined up loads, and the owner-operators at the truck stop can get loads from them. Nearly all of these containers here housed broker offices) 
For starters, this truck stop — deemed a tiny one — had parking spaces for about 400 trucks. According to our tour guides, it’s not uncommon for a Chinese truck stop to hold upwards of 10,000 trucks... And of shocking absence? Fuel islands. I’m not sure if this was out of the ordinary or if Chinese truckers just fuel their rigs elsewhere, but it was quite a departure from norm in the U.S.A., where fuel islands basically anchor most truck stops...

* USA - Manufacturers expanded in June but more slowly

Washington,DC,USA -AP, by PAUL WISEMAN -Jul 1, 2014: -- U.S. manufacturing grew in June for the 13th straight month. But the pace of the expansion slowed from May... The Institute for Supply Management said Tuesday that its manufacturing index dipped to 55.3 in June from 55.4 in May. Any reading higher than 50 signals that manufacturing is growing... The trade group of purchasing managers said that orders rose at a faster pace last month compared with May. But growth in production and exports slowed. A measure of employment shows that factories added jobs for the 12th straight month; the pace of hiring last month was the same as in May... 
* India - Sales of medium, heavy-duty trucks pick up pace in June

Commercial vehicle sales declined to 180,000 units in fiscal 2014 from 345,000 units in fiscal 2012, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers. The decline for heavy-duty trucks, which almost halved during this period, was steeper...

HoChiMin City, Vietnam -TUOI TRE News -30 May 2014: -- Mobile weighbridges deployed on highways across Vietnam have caused road transport prices to surge because of the termination of overloading and the shortage of trucks in the last two months... Before, a 4,000 ton ship needed less than 200 trucks to unload all of its cargo. But now, it needs up to 300 trucks. The shortage of trucks in Vietnam causes the vehicles to sell like hot cakes. Around 40-50 Japanese-made Hino trucks were sold out for a month as of April 1, while it was just 2-3 vehicles a month earlier, according to Vu Viet Giap, a Hino dealer in Vietnam. Now, those who wish to buy a new Hino truck must wait till July for it to be delivered. The Vietnam Automobile Manufacturers Association (VAMA) said it sold 14,556 trucks in the first four months of this year, up 2,861 vehicles or 24 percent against the same period last year.

Beijing,China -Ecn/China Daily, by Qindexing -11 Nov 2013: -- Industry analysts say prospects for Chinese truck manufacturers overseas still look grim because of high barriers to entry in mature markets like Europe and the United States coupled with a saturation of Chinese brands in traditional export destinations like the Middle East and South Africa... But these truck makers have found a silver lining in China's latest efforts to push forward urbanization... Heavy-duty trucks are always needed at the growing number of construction sites around the nation. People from the countryside in central and western China are expected to swarm into small cities, creating a large demand for infrastructure and the tools to build it... Figures from China's National Bureau of Statistics show that the nation's urban population increased by 12 percent between 2002 and 2011. It is now increasing by 20 million every year, according to the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development... According to China ministry's institute on industrial research, heavy-duty truck deliveries grew by 12 percent year on year during the first eight months to 503,100... Beiqi Foton Motor Co, the largest commercial vehicle manufacturer in China by sales, is among those eager to capitalize on this opportunity. During the first eight months, Foton sold 73,900 heavy trucks, up 27 percent from a year ago...

Bangalore,KARN,India -ENS/Economic Bureau -7 October 2013: -- Prevalent economic conditions in the country are adding to the woes of truck makers here as the segment registered its fifth successive quarter of de-growth... According to estimates, the segment (5 ton-49 ton) saw a 41.2% drop in September 2013 while it witnessed a 27.26% decline in the first half of 2013... According to the India Foundation of Transport Research and Training (IFTRT) factors such as growth rate remaining stagnant at below 5% and lower factory output have adversely impacted sales since April 2012 and remains the same story in September 2013... The three main categories of trucks are long haul heavy duty, haulage and Tippers among others... Market experts claim that Indian truck manufacturers are losing out to competition from cheaper vehicles from China and also due to fall in sales in neighbouring countries like Sri Lanka, which has been one of the bigger consumers of Indian trucks...

* UK - SMMT: tractors up, rigids down ahead of Euro-6

London,EN,UK -Commercial Motor, by David Wilcox -7 August 2013: -- The UK truck market is looking increasingly polarised as the latest registrations data compiled by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) shows tractor unit numbers surging but interest in rigid trucks slumping... The number of new tractor units registered in July leapt by 40.6% compared with the same month last year...  There appears to be a minor revival in interest in two-axle tractors; their year-to-date numbers are up by 16.5%, compared with growth of 4.6% for three-axle tractors .. But the picture is very different in the rigid truck sector, where the number of trucks above 6 tonnes GVW registered in the first seven months of the year is 12.4% behind last year’s figure at this point. Brussels,Belgium -Fleet Europe (), Jonathan Green -21 March 2013: -- At a time when the large used 4x4 market is virtually coming to a standstill in Western Europe the Russian market is sucking up the excess. “Demand for 4x4s in Russia is high because they don’t currently penalise higher emission vehicles and instead focus more on practicality and suitability for the country’s road and weather conditions.” said Peter Grøftehauge, Autorola’s Chief Executive...  With large parts of Russia covered in snow and ice for much of the year – and the poor conditions of the wider Russian road network – large 4x4s are proving popular with businesses people in Russia...  In recent years older petrol engine 4x4s in countries like Holland, Belgium and Germany have fallen out of favour due to high taxation and fuel costs...   According to Autorola, a migration of large used high emission 4x4s from Western Europe to Russia has begun thanks to the effectiveness of cross border re-marketing. However, the tax situation on older imports - including SUV's - has not changed...

* China’s LNG Trucks May Rise Fivefold by 2015

Beijing,China -Bloomberg (USA), by Chou Hui Hong -Mar 14, 2013: -- China’s LNG-fueled heavy-duty trucks may increase fivefold in less than two years as the country fights air pollution, Sanford C. Bernstein and Co. said... Liquefied natural gas may power 247,000 vehicles by 2015, up from 51,000 last year, reducing China’s dependence on oil imports, Neil Beveridge, a Hong Kong-based analyst at the company, said in an e-mailed report today. The country has 5 million heavy-duty trucks, Bernstein said... There may be 694,000 LNG-fueled trucks by 2020, or 6 percent out of a total fleet of 11.5 million, according to Bernstein...
* Kuwait - MAN plans big showroom in

* China - Heavy truck sales continue to fall in November

Shanghai,SH,China -Gasgoo, by Carmen Lee -December 12, 2012: ... According to a cvworld.cn report appearing today, a total of 44,500 heavy trucks were sold in November. Although the number represents slight growth of two percent from October, it is still a full 20.6 percent less than last November's reported figure. November marks the sixth consecutive month that Chinese truck sales have failed to exceed 50,000 units... The vast majority of manufacturers saw their truck sales fall over the month. The top three manufacturers, Dongfeng Commercial Vehicle, Sinotruck and FAW, reported monthly sales of 9,600 trucks, 6,500 trucks and 7,950 trucks, respectively. Those results translate to negative year-on-year sales growth rates of 19.1 percent, one percent and 28.2 percent. They were followed by Foton Auman (6,500 truck sales), Shacman (5,600), Jianghuai (2,000), Beijing Benz (1,500), SAIC Iveco Hongyan (1,500) and Valin (1,002)...
