TRUCK MIRRORS * Europe: Replaced by camera monitoring system

* The Netherlands - CornerEye can now replace mirrors

--- The CornerEye camera surveillance has been approved under the R46 EC directive on backlighting. It can thus replace the mirrors (front and side views) of Classes V and VI in their entirety and thus be adopted by the manufacturers, when surveillance systems and cameras were previously authorized only on trucks equipped with one of Retro, or even both... CornerEye Corlaco combines a high-definition wide-angle camera (field of view: 270 °) mounted on the front right side of the cab and a 10.1- inch monitor integrated in the passenger compartment displaying a real-time image... The device also claims an improvement in the aerodynamics of vehicles (reduction in drag, thus in consumption) and in safety, leading to reduction of insurance premiums and amounts of potential damage...

TIRE INFLATION SYSTEM * USA: More than 100 fleets now using Halo one

* Tennessee - The Halo Tire Inflator improved fuel economy by 1.1% and extended tire life by 14.4%

-- Aperia Technologies says its Halo Tire Inflator is now being used by more than 100 fleets... The system bolts onto truck and trailer wheels and generates its power to adjust tire inflation pressures through the rotational movement of the wheel. It does not tap into truck or trailer air systems... Josh Carter, CEO of Aperia, said that fleets have conducted comprehensive independent testing before deploying the system. More than 50 fleet tests have been conducted, he said... To facilitate fleet testing, Aperia offers a wireless data acquisition system that can be easily installed to monitor tire pressures and the device’s performance. One test indicated proper tire inflation pressures were maintained over a 100-day period while tires without the Halo installed lost as much as two psi per week on average. Another fleet found the Halo improved fuel economy by 1.1% and extended tire life by 14.4%...

TRUCK'S ACCESORIES * USA: Thermo King develops truck solar panel

* Minnesota - Alternative power source for refrigerated and dry  fleets

(Video: "Thermo King - Solar Panel" by DreamWorld Studios - Feb 26, 2015: Thermo King needed to create a new product launch video to highlight the advantages of their new solar panel charging device to complement existing products)
-- Thermo King said it has developed a solar panel option for trucks, designed to provide an alternative power source for refrigerated and dry fleets. The ThermoLite solar panels are able to withstand winter conditions as well as high velocity rain and are “the only automotive-rated charge controller on the market,” according to the company. “Parasitic power is a significant issue for both refrigerated and dry fleets. Telematics and other power draws drain battery life and create downtime — those issues turn into costs and cut into the bottom line. ThermoLite solar panels are the solution,” Paul Kroes, solar business development manager at Thermo King, said in a statement. The ThermoLite 26W is able to support transport refrigeration unit batteries and the 36W model can support the company’s Heat King cargo heater and its Europe, Middle East and Africa products... The company expects to unveil its 100-300W model in November, which will be able to support liftgate and pallet-jack charging...

The state government announced the rollout of the "rumbler" subwoofer sirens, which will be installed on the front of the fire truck to creates vibrations that can be felt from a range of up to 60 metres... Fire & Rescue NSW Commissioner Greg Mullins said "response times are deteriorating" as it becomes "harder and harder" for fire trucks to navigate inner city areas owing to inattentive motorists, cyclists and pedestrians... Initial trials showed that fire trucks saved up to 30 seconds for five minutes of driving, he said... The total cost of the rollout is $50,000, with the fit out for each unit costing around $2000... One truck in Sydney has been trialling the system for a year, with two more trucks to be fitted per week until there is a fleet of 25... New York Police Department and Boston Fire Department use the same "Rumbler" system...
