NEW TRUCK SALES * USA - Orders sank in September

* Indiana - Faced with a weak freight market, trucking companies aim to reduce capacity

--- Orders for new big-rig trucks fell 27% in September compared with a year earlier, to the lowest level for that month since 2009, as the freight market struggled to reduce capacity amid tepid shipping demand... Trucking companies ordered 13,800 of the largest type of commercial tractor-trailers in September, according to data provider FTR Transportation Intelligence... “It remains crystal clear that truckers are still struggling to balance excess freight hauling capacity in the context of anemic freight growth,” said Steve Tam, vice president at ACT Research, which reported similar figures... Stifel Financial Corp. analyst Michael Baudendistel wrote September is typically the weakest month for new truck orders, and said he expects sales to pick up in October. The company expects manufacturers to produce 230,000 of the heavy-duty vehicles in 2016, a decline of 29% from the previous year, and 200,000 units in 2017. The bank expects production to pick up slightly in 2018...

* Michigan - More than Ford in the first three quarters of 2015

-- Not since 2009 has General Motors ended a calendar year with more total pickup truck sales than Ford. Moreover, not since 2009 have General Motors’ full-size pickup trucks, combined, outsold the Ford F-Series... In addition, GM also sold nearly 86,000 Chevrolet Colorados and GMC Canyons, a small figure by full-size standards, but equal to 32 percent market share in a small/midsize category that grew 47 percent so far this year... Throw the Chevrolet and GMC foursome together, add 10 leftover Avalanche and Escalade EXT sales into the mix, and General Motors sold 688,225 pickup trucks in the U.S. during the first nine months of 2015. That represents a 30 percent year-over-year volume increase, an increase in pickup truck market share from 31 percent in 2014’s first three-quarters to 37 percent this year, and 123,774 more total pickup truck sales than Ford managed in the same time period...

BEST SELLING PICKUP TRUCKS * USA & Canada: October 2014

Chicago,ILL,USA -PickUp Trucks, by Mark Williams -November 3, 2014: -- To put it simply, October sales were quite strong, but that's not unusual given that, historically, pickup sales finish strong the last four months of the year. Add to that the fact that average fuel prices are down (below $3 per gallon in some parts of the country), pent-up demand is beginning to relax, certain sectors of the economy are showing growth, and there is a significant amount of incentive money available for new half-ton and heavy-duty pickups, and you have a recipe for strong truck sales. Some analysts are predicting year-end sales totals to be almost a million units stronger than last year, hovering around the 16.5 million units mark...
