FORD's PICKUP TRUCKS RECALL * USA

* Michigan - Ford recalls 53,000 F-250 series pickup trucks, they could roll away while in park

--- Ford is recalling nearly 53,000 of its F-250 series pickup trucks due to the risk that they could roll away while in park due to a manufacturing error. .. The recall affects the 2017 Ford F-250 built at the Kentucky Assembly Plant between Oct. 9, 2015 and March 30, 2017. The truck comes with a gasoline 6.2-liter engine... "In the affected vehicles, a damaged park rod actuating plate might not achieve mechanical park within the automatic transmission after the driver moves the shift lever to park," Ford reports in a news release. "If the parking brake is not applied, this could result in unintended vehicle movement with the gear selector in park without warning, increasing the risk of injury or crash" ... So until drivers are able to get that F-250 into the dealership, make sure the parking brake is active to make sure that big truck doesn't go rolling away...

NAVISTAR's TRUCKS RECALL * USA

* Illinois - Approximately 2,700 International trucks recalled

--- Navistar it is recalling approximately 2,700 International trucks because of a problem that could cause the air brakes to lose pressure... Navistar says the cause of the recall is the air dryer mounting bracket could fracture, causing the air dryer to separate from the frame with possible airline separation from the dryer, which could result in air system leaks or loss of air pressure to the brake system. The recall says this could result in increased stopping distances, increasing the risk of a crash... Navistar says drivers would likely see a loss of air pressure on the air gauge or hear a buzzer in the cab of the truck if the defect occurs... To fix the defect, Navistar will replace the air dryer mounting bracket with a bracket made of heavier gauge steel and thicker gussets...

NAVISTAR RECALL * USA: 2017 International ProStar & LoneStar, 9900i

* Illinois - Navistar recalls heavy diesel trucks to fix battery cover latch defect

--- Navistar is recalling 294 heavy diesel trucks because a battery cover latch defect could increase the risk of a fire... The truck recall includes 2017 International ProStar, LoneStar, 9900i, and manufactured between June 13, 2016 and Dec. 8, 2016... The affected trucks are equipped with a metallic battery cover latch that, if unlatched from its anchor, could contact the battery jump start stud. As a result, an electrical short to ground could occur if the protective cover for the jump start stud is not being used... This situation could lead to fire...

GM's TRUCKS RECALL * USA: Because * Japan's TAKATA Airbag's defective

* Michigan -  GM recalls 2 Million trucks, SUVs for Takata Airbag defect

--- General Motors is recalling 1.9 million trucks and SUVs in the U.S. for defective airbags that could kill or seriously injure vehicle occupants... The new recall covers 2007-2011 full-size pickups and SUVs including the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Tahoe and Suburban; GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL; Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT and Escalade ESV; and 2009-2011 Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks... The vehicles are equipped with front passenger-side airbags made by Takata Corp... Propellant in the airbags can deteriorate and explore, shooting deadly metal fragments into the vehicle’s interior. This could seriously injure or kill the vehicle’s occupants... The source of the problem may be humidity and temperature cycling... At least ten deaths have been linked to the Takata airbag defect, including nine in the U.S. Most have been in Honda vehicles... The issue has forced the recall of more than 24 million vehicles in the U.S. ... GM joins other automakers like Daimler Vans, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Volkswagen, Jaguar-Land Rover, and BMW in adding vehicles to the massive Takata airbag recall...

* Japan - Car makers recall more vehicles with faulty Takata Air Bags

--- Car makers recalled more than four million additional vehicles in the U.S. with faulty Takata Corp. air bags, capping the first wave in an expansion of the largest automotive safety campaign in history... General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. each recalled roughly 1.9 million vehicles to replace front passenger-side air bags, according to filings Thursday with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Volkswagen AG, Jaguar-Land Rover, BMW AG, Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Vans have recalled smaller numbers of vehicles... The latest recalls affect air bags that lack a drying agent to prevent moisture from building, a phenomenon cited as contributing to explosions. The air bags use ammonium nitrate as a propellant, a chemical prone to destabilizing amid prolonged exposure to moisture and heat. Air bags also become riskier as they age, officials have said... The safety campaigns in the U.S. are part of a massive expansion disclosed in May requiring auto makers to recall up to an additional 40 million air bags that risk exploding and sending metal shards flying in vehicle cabins. Overall, nearly 70 million air bags are being recalled in the U.S. alone...

FORD's RECALL * USA: 271,000 F-150 pickups

* Michigan - Ford recalls 271,000 trucks because of a brake issue

- Ford is recalling some of its top-selling vehicles in the U.S. to fix a fluid leak that can reduce braking power... The recall covers about 271,000 F-150 pickups in North America from the 2013 and 2014 model years that have 3.5-liter V6 engines... Ford says brake fluid can leak from the master cylinder. That could reduce the ability of the front brakes to stop the trucks... The company reports nine alleged crashes with no injuries, but one person said they suffered a knee injury while applying the brakes... Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder for free. They'll also replace the brake booster if they find leaks from the master cylinder. Ford says it's working with suppliers to get parts to dealers and will begin notifying customers the week of July 11... Ford says the problem is not related to an investigation by federal safety regulators into power brake assist failures in F-150 pickups. That probe by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into electric vacuum pump failures was closed earlier this month after Ford extended warranties and the agency determined that the trucks could still be stopped by drivers...

MACK TRUCKS RECALL * USA

* Pennsylvania - Mack recalls trucks for driveshaft, steering issues

-- Mack Trucks is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 Granite, LR Pinnacle, TerraPro and Titan trucks for an issue involving a connection between the driveshaft and rear axle. The company is also recalling certain 2016 and 2017 Mack Granite and TerraPro trucks for a steering shaft problem... For the driveshaft recall, the number of trucks potentially involved is 20,741 vehicles manufactured from Sept. 1, 2011 to April 30, 2014 with a Mack proprietary axle. For trucks with the steering shaft issue, Mack is recalling 1,318 vehicles... In the affected vehicles, the cap nut that retains the interaxle driveshaft yoke to the rear axle input shaft may become loose. If the nut comes off, the yoke can separate from the axle input shaft and cause the driveshaft to disconnect. This can disable the vehicle and result in debris on the road, according to the NHTSA recall report... To remedy the problem, Mack will replace the cap nut and inspect the threads on the input shaft. If the threads are damaged, the input shaft will be replaced...

FORD RECALLS * USA & Canada: Takata air bags again

* Michigan - Ford Ranger: Recall pickup trucks in Canada, U.S. recalled after air bag death

(Video by NBC Nightly News - Jan 22, 2016: There’s word of yet another death linked to Japanese-made Takata airbags found in vehicles of more than a dozen automakers)

-- Ford is recalling nearly 391,000 Ranger pickups because the driver's air bag inflators can explode with too much force and cause injuries... The recall covers trucks from the 2004 through 2006 model years in the U.S. and Canada... It comes just days after the government announced that a South Carolina man was killed when an inflator exploded in December. Joel Knight, 52, of Kershaw died when he was struck in the neck by metal shrapnel after his 2006 Ranger hit a cow in the road and struck a fence... The government says automakers will recall another 5 million vehicles equipped with faulty inflators made by Takata Corp. of Japan. Some of the recalls are because of the crash that killed Knight, with the rest due to air bags failing in lab tests... Other automakers are expected to announce more recalls soon as the Takata inflator mess continues to grow. It now covers 14 auto and truck makers and totals about 24 million vehicles. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says the number of recalls is likely to expand further... Takata uses the chemical ammonium nitrate to cause a small explosion that creates gas and inflates air bags in a crash. But the chemical can deteriorate over time when exposed to high heat and humidity and burn too fast, blowing apart a metal canister designed to contain the explosion... Knight is the 10th known death worldwide due to the inflators, and more than 100 people have been hurt...

FORD PICKUPS RECALL * USA: F-150 trucks

* Michigan - Ford recalls 37,000 F-150 trucks due to brake malfunction

-- Some Ford F-150's could hit the brakes when they're not supposed to, possibly causing an accident, the manufacturer said Wednesday... Ford has recalled 37,000 of the best-selling trucks for the problem, which happens when its automatic braking system incorrectly senses that there's another vehicle in its lane... The problem will only occur when an F-150 is in what's called "adaptive cruise control" mode, which will apply the brakes if it detects an obstacle. Ford said the problem can occur when the pickup passes a large, highly reflective truck. The radar can be fooled into thinking that large truck is in the F-150's lane and then hit the brakes. The collision-warning system would also activate, flashing red lights and sounding an alarm in the F-150's cab... Ford said it's aware of one accident that could be a result of this problem, but that is is not aware of any injuries. The problem can be addressed with a software update... SEE OTHER FORD's RECALL here.

TRUCKS RECALL * USA: NHTSA´s statistics

* DC - More stringent auto recalls for 2015 are ‘new normal’

-- If 2014 was the year of the auto recall, 2015 isn’t going to be any slouch... U.S. automakers and other vehicle manufacturers overseen by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration already have recalled more than 32.4 million vehicles in nearly 500 campaigns through early August, according to a Detroit News analysis of government data and automaker reports... That’s still far fewer than the 63.95 million vehicles recalled in 2014 in 803 campaigns. But it’s already topped the previous record of 30.8 million vehicles recalled in all of 2004... Several automakers are on pace for a record-setting number of recalls. And the total number of campaigns this year could come close to last year...

TRUCKS RECALL * USA: Mitsubishi Fuso medium duty trucks

* Pennsylvania - Sheller, P.C. Law firm investigation underway for class action relief

(Photo: A Mitsubishi Fuso Fighter Carrier Truck FK618)
-- A federal court in New Jersey has cleared the way for further nationwide investigation of inherent and irreversible defects in Mitsubishi Fuso trucks equipped with BlueTec® technology emission control... On July 30, 2015, a Florida grocery store chain's putative class action, alleging claims related to defective emission controllers in Mitsubishi Fuso truck engines, survived as a judge denied most of the truck maker's motion to strike class allegations and breach of warranty claims... The court held that the plaintiff had adequately alleged a state law consumer protection claim for deceptive or unfair practices in connection with the marketing and sale of the purportedly defective trucks...

(Photo: The BlueTec® Technology innovates environmental friendliness and fuel economy with a combination of regeneration controlled DPF and BlueTec®)
... Mitsubishi allegedly marketed the new BlueTec® engines as a better alternative to the systems installed by other engine makers to comply with the new EPA regulations. However, in court documents, the initial plaintiff alleges that Mitsubishi's representations about the engines were wrong and that the technology rendered the trucks defective and caused operational failures that resulted in the engines unexpectedly shutting down for no apparent reason. The engine defect is alleged to put "extreme and harmful" pressure on the engines, resulting in regular and catastrophic failures of the engine, including power loss, stalling and failure to restart...
