GM's TRUCKS RECALL * USA: Because * Japan's TAKATA Airbag's defective

* Michigan -  GM recalls 2 Million trucks, SUVs for Takata Airbag defect

--- General Motors is recalling 1.9 million trucks and SUVs in the U.S. for defective airbags that could kill or seriously injure vehicle occupants... The new recall covers 2007-2011 full-size pickups and SUVs including the Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Avalanche, Tahoe and Suburban; GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon and Yukon XL; Cadillac Escalade, Escalade EXT and Escalade ESV; and 2009-2011 Silverado and Sierra 2500 and 3500 trucks... The vehicles are equipped with front passenger-side airbags made by Takata Corp... Propellant in the airbags can deteriorate and explore, shooting deadly metal fragments into the vehicle’s interior. This could seriously injure or kill the vehicle’s occupants... The source of the problem may be humidity and temperature cycling... At least ten deaths have been linked to the Takata airbag defect, including nine in the U.S. Most have been in Honda vehicles... The issue has forced the recall of more than 24 million vehicles in the U.S. ... GM joins other automakers like Daimler Vans, Mercedes-Benz, Ford, Volkswagen, Jaguar-Land Rover, and BMW in adding vehicles to the massive Takata airbag recall...

* Japan - Car makers recall more vehicles with faulty Takata Air Bags

--- Car makers recalled more than four million additional vehicles in the U.S. with faulty Takata Corp. air bags, capping the first wave in an expansion of the largest automotive safety campaign in history... General Motors Co. and Ford Motor Co. each recalled roughly 1.9 million vehicles to replace front passenger-side air bags, according to filings Thursday with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Volkswagen AG, Jaguar-Land Rover, BMW AG, Mercedes-Benz and Daimler Vans have recalled smaller numbers of vehicles... The latest recalls affect air bags that lack a drying agent to prevent moisture from building, a phenomenon cited as contributing to explosions. The air bags use ammonium nitrate as a propellant, a chemical prone to destabilizing amid prolonged exposure to moisture and heat. Air bags also become riskier as they age, officials have said... The safety campaigns in the U.S. are part of a massive expansion disclosed in May requiring auto makers to recall up to an additional 40 million air bags that risk exploding and sending metal shards flying in vehicle cabins. Overall, nearly 70 million air bags are being recalled in the U.S. alone...
