* Virginia - Owner of coal trucking company pleads guilty to federal violations
-- The owner of a Big Stone Gap coal trucking company pleaded guilty to violating the Federal Mine and Safety and Health Act in federal court Tuesday... Hillis Bresee, 63, and his company, Bresee Trucking, each pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the willful of the mandatory mine safety health or safety standard by providing advance notice of safety inspections... The company also pleaded guilty to willfully violating mine safety health or safety standards... Bresee faces a maximum penalty of up to one year in prison and a fine of up to $250,000... In addition to the plea agreement, Bresee and his company agreed to a civil settlement with the U.S. Department of Labor... Bresee also agreed to pay $300,000 in civil penalties, $70,000 in restitution to two former employees, and fines of $5,000... Sentencing in the case has been scheduled for Aug. 15...
