NEW MULTIMODAL TRANSIT ROUTE * Connecting Europe and Near East countries

* Tehran - First European cargo bypasses Turkey to reach Iran through Armenia

--- A maiden shipment has arrived in Iran from Germany via a multimodal transit route connecting Iran to Europe via the Black Sea, secretary of International Transport Association of Iran, Gholamhossein Amiri, announced. Plans are underway for the route to replace the one passing through Turkey... Tehran and Ankara have been grappling with a longstanding transit dispute, arising from different fuel prices in the two neighboring countries. The issue led the government to take measures, such as charging Turkish trucks a fee to compensate the considerably low fuel prices in Iran to sealing the Turkish trucks’ fuel tanks at the Bazargan-Dogubayazit border crossing... The common border has frequently been the scene of traffic congestion with transit trucks queuing at the border in lines reaching 15 kilometers at times... Recent negotiations with Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Bulgaria, Italy and Greece have centered around a transit corridor involving Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, the Black Sea, Bulgaria, Greece and Italy... According to Amiri, an agreement has been signed by Iran, Armenia and Georgia regarding implementation of the corridor... Trucks are shipped by roll-on/roll-off ships from Georgia to Bulgaria across the Black Sea. The same method can also be used for trucks shipping goods from Greece’s southern ports to Italy using the Mediterranean Sea...

TRUCKER STORIES * UK: 'I’m a trucker not an immigration officer'

* France - Calais, home to makeshift camps of thousands of migrants hoping to cross the border into the UK

(Reporter, Victoria Derbyshire programme on BBC Two and BBC News Channel- Jun 10, 2015Lorry drivers passing through Calais, northern France, say they are now taking on the role of amateur immigration officer, as they struggle to keep would-be asylum seekers from gaining entry to the UK in their vehicles)

-- Lorry drivers have long been attracted to the job by the freedom of the road. But some say that in Calais, northern France, they are now taking on the role of amateur immigration officer. I spent three days with those travelling through the port town... "I opened the door with another driver and I had six adults and a baby in the trailer," Euan Fleming tells me... At a diesel stop in Calais - home to makeshift camps of thousands of migrants hoping to cross the border into the UK - he checks the padlock on the back of his huge lorry. It's intact this time, but he tells me about a recent occasion when it wasn't... "I'm a dad, I've got two kids - a five-year-old and a three-year-old - and this mum [in the trailer] had nothing with her. No bags, no packages, no nothing" ... He and his colleague told them all to get out. Euan didn't ask where they came from, but says he's often wondered if they ever made it to the UK... But Euan tells me he doesn't feel like those in charge of UK immigration really have a clue what is happening on the ground... "I would challenge the immigration minister to come and sit in my truck where you have sat and witness what we have witnessed. I would love to hear his solution"...

(Image by Jenna Krajeski: Trucks wait in Turkey to cross into Iraq)
Istambul,Turkey -Fleet Europe, by Tim Harrup -26 July 2013: -- A new report by consultants Frost  and Sullivan shows that operational leasing is rapidly taking hold in the Turkish market. The company’s ‘Strategic Analysis of the Turkish Fleet Leasing Market’ predicts that sales to operational leasing companies, which were at 69,000 last year, will almost double to 123,000 by 2018. According to Frost and Sullivan’s transport analyst Hikmet çakmak, it is a combination of the ‘service’ benefits of operational leasing, and higher vehicle taxes, which is pushing fleet buyers in this direction. As in other parts of Europe, the leasing industry is also trying to reach out to SME’s with its products, which will give a further boost to the operational leasing segment. However, Hikmet çakmak also points out that there is a lack of legislation in this domain in turkey, which needs to be addressed. Restrictions on leasing LCV’s are an example of one of the problems...
