-- Dash cams are becoming more and more an essential for the life of any driver... Even more so for the truckie who is more often that not the first to have to prove they weren’t in the wrong... Besides that, they provide for some entertainment via various Facebook sites set up to name and shame other drivers behaving badly on the road... OnSiteCameras don’t recommend using the collision detection function as it is very sensitive. It actually filled our SD card with footage that couldn’t be recorded over in two days of using it on the lowest setting. The best way to make sure your footage isn’t lost after an incident is to press the EMERG button or to take the SD card out and swap with another one after the incident to protect the files... I’ve heard of fleets that have been given discounts on insurance just for running dash cams, so it might pay to talk to your broker if you have a camera and see if you can get a discount...
