* Burundi - Political unrest slows Burundi cargo uptake at Mombasa Port
-- The ongoing political unrest in Burundi has slowed down transportation of cargo destined for the landlocked country from Mombasa... This is after the Long Distance Truck Drivers and Allied Workers Union urged Kenyan transporters to avoid the country until calm is restored... According to the union, the current situation in Burundi is too dangerous for its members to operate there... Business in Burundi has been disrupted in some areas for the past few weeks following public protests against President Pierre Nkurunziza's bid to run for a third term in office... Speaking to the Star on phone yesterday, the union secretary general Nicholas Mbugua said three Kenyan drivers were lucky to return home last week, after being stuck in Burundi for over a week... Burundi has the least market share of the total transit cargo traffic through Mombasa at 1.1 per cent. Uganda is leading in transit cargo through Mombasa at 74 per cent market share followed by South (10.6 per cent) DR Congo ( 5.7 per cent) Rwanda (3.3 per cent) and Tanzania ( 2.6 per cent)...
