-- Ford Motor Company has a nice problem: It cannot make enough F-150s to keep up with consumer demand. New F-150s race out of the lot in 9-12 days, much faster than the typical truck... That’s remarkable. The energy efficient all aluminized F-150 pickup comes to the market at a time when oil prices have been falling sharply making efficiency less of a concern for thrifty consumers... Obviously, there are other favorable factors that must have helped F-150 get to a good start like a strong US economy, ultra low financing rates, and Ford’s mastery of the buzz... In recent years, the company has built a reputation for quality and innovation, rolling out new products, strengthening its brand, and market position. In 2013, Ford was America’s best-selling vehicle brand for the fourth consecutive year, and Ford F-Series continued as the country’s best-selling truck for the 37th year in a row and best-selling vehicle for the 32nd consecutive year, according to the company’s 2013 annual report... -- Barrick Gold has placed an initial order with Ford for 35 all-new 2015 F-150 SuperCab 4x4 truck models with 3.5l V6 and 5l V8 engines to enable them to be used in mining operations... From 2013 to 2014, Barrick's mining survey team drove two prototype F-150s with experimental aluminium-alloy cargo boxes through severe terrain at the company's Bald Mountain and Cortez mines in Nevada ... From initial exploration and mine support functions to land reclamation, Barrick uses F-150s in all of its USA gold mining operations. According to Ford, many of the trucks go into extremely rugged conditions during the planning and mapping out of new projects, core drilling and daily mining operations. Our trucks will see 30,000 to 35,000 miles per year, accumulating well over 100,000 miles in the 40-to-45-month lease rotation... * Illinois - JPMorgan Chase & Co. downgrades Navistar International stock
(Photo by Bill Lackey/Springfield News Sun - Navistar employees build a truck on the assembly line at the Springfield plant recently)
-- JP Morgan has downgraded Navistar International Corp stock from Overweight to Underweight, after the company hosted an analyst meeting earlier in the week. The sell-side research firm reduced the price target on Navistar from $40 to $28... The US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed an amended complaint against Navistar International in a federal court in Chicago two weeks ago. The Illinois-based truck maker had been developing a new engine technology on which it spent $700 million. The new technology failed to meet 2010 federal emission standards following which the firm abandoned the program. The SEC claims that the company was withholding some key information pertaining to emissions, and was also trying to put political pressure on Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to certify its engine technology...
