(Photo: A young truck driver) Raleigh,N.C.,USA-Go By Truck News -September 5, 2014: -- The trucking industry can address the driver shortage by focusing its recruitment efforts on Millennials, says Duane Long. Long, who is the incoming chair of the American Trucking Associations and CEO of Longistics, Raleigh, N.C., believes that together, he and the ATA can attract younger drivers to the profession... “It’s one of my greatest challenges and one of the things I intend to work the hardest at,” says Long. “I, myself, was recruited as a young person. I intend to make that part of my platform” ... The ATA estimates that the industry is currently short about 30,000 drivers. By 2016, that number could be more than 100,000... “We have to attract younger people into our industry,” Long says. “We are studying how the millennial generation gets its information. We are studying how social media works and trying to make our industry available by showing young people what we’re all about” ...
