Ionia County,MICH,USA -MLive, by Barton Deiters -September 03, 2014: -- A 54-year-old North Carolina man is clinging to life after he was injured following two crashes involving five semi-trucks during the morning rush hour on I-96 between Lansing and Grand Rapids... The first crash occurred about when a 2007 Freightliner semi-truck driven by 44-year-old Clifton Miller of Springfield, Missouri, was stopped on I-96 due to rush-hour back-up near Clarksville... A 2008 Freightliner box truck driven by 44-year-old Donald Burtnick ,of Grand Rapids, slammed into the trailer of the semi causing significant damage to the box truck... As police were investigating that crash, a second crash occurred just to the west along I-96 when two trucks driven by men from Detroit and Little Rock, Arkansas, were stopped on the highway due to a construction zone back-up... A third truck driven by a 54-year-old man from Ashville, North Carolina, apparently did not see the back-up and crashed into the rear of one truck forcing it into the truck ahead of it, police said... The crash snarled traffic and shut down lanes of the already construction-clogged highway until well after noon...
