-Go By Truck News -September 4, 2014: -- The most recent version of an annual study on fuel savings technology suggests that fleets can get a return on their investments in an average of three years. By looking at what the most progressive fleets are doing and where they’re having success, the North American Council for Freight Efficiency has compiled a series of benchmarks for the trucking industry... The NACFE is a group of carriers, manufacturers, government bodies and private organizations. Its Annual Fuel Efficiency Benchmark Study looks at 10 large fleets each year, which have been judged to be early adopters of fuel efficiency technology. During 2013, the fleets had a combined 41,000 tractors and 130,000 trailers. They include both regional and long haul carriers that haul dry goods and refrigerated cargo... In 2013, the fleets saved an average of $7,2000 per truck per year and increased their fuel economy by 8 percent from 2011... The most commonly used fuel savings technologies among the fleets include synthetic transmission oil, speed governance, driver training, minimizing the height of the fifth wheel and using full height roof air fairings... “Real-world data shows that fleets are increasing their adoption rates of these technologies and seeing measurable improvements in fuel economy” ...
