New York,NY,USA -The WSJ, by TOM GARA -October 7, 2013: -- When companies expand, one thing they tend to do is create demand for more trucks to move all that extra stuff around. Truck sales are a useful indicator of economic activity, and the sluggish U.S. economy still isn’t buying as many new trucks as it was before the recession... So on that front, some moderately positive news about U.S. economic activity from truck maker Navistar oday: In an SEC filing related to a $200 million debt offering, the company said it “secured nearly 5,900 Class 6-8 truck orders, making it the Company’s highest order receipt month since December 2011” ... Does Navistar’s busy order book suggest a broader uptick for the truck business? In part, the company is taking back market share it lost to competitors after a gamble on engine technology failed to pay off... September’s truck orders show there was a healthy spurt of economic activity — and they came in a month when construction spending, including both residential and commercial projects — hit its highest level since mid-2009...

The Bellevue company said the factory will build its DAF truck model for Brazil and the South American market...

        
* California - First electric truck maker successfully demonstrated working vehicle-to-grid charging

 Los Angeles,CAL,USA -GreenTech -October 6, 2013: -- Boulder Electric Vehicle has successfully demonstrated their Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) all electric trucks in three separate locations including Michigan, Colorado and California... The first full-powered success transpired in Royal Oak, Mic., June 14. With 60 kilowatts of power going in and coming out of the vehicles, Boulder EV reached a new milestone and became the 1st EV truck manufacturer in the world to successfully demonstrate V2G bi-directional charging... The second major milestone came on July 25, in Ft. Carson, Colo. It was here that the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers and the SPIDERS project signed off on verifying full-charge and discharge of the vehicle at 60 kilowatts of power... The third demonstration took place at Boulder Electric Vehicle’s Los Angeles plant Aug.13. The California Energy Commission awarded Boulder Electric Vehicle a $3 million grant from its Alternative and Renewable Fuel and Vehicle Technology Program to support the opening of BEV’s second plant, in Los Angeles...
